Science is a dynamic, forward-looking and collaborative human endeavour. It provides a distinctive way of thinking about, and explaining, the events and phenomena in the world. Science educators at Warwick SHS foster students’ curiosity, imagination and wonder through a range of engaging lessons.

In the Science Learning Area, students learn to investigate, understand and communicate about the physical, biological, chemical and technological world. In the process, students learn to appreciate the interactions that support life on our planet and the role that Science has had on the cultural and technological development of man on this Earth.

Warwick SHS students have the opportunity to enrich their Science learning by taking part in individual and group activities. Warwick SHS Science educators also provide a range of extension opportunities for students, with learning links established to tertiary institutions and professional associations.
In the Year 8, 9 and 10 programs at Warwick SHS, Science is organised into three broad areas based upon the newly introduced Western Australian Curriculum:

  • Science Inquiry Skills
  • Science as a Human Endeavour
  • Science Understanding which encompasses the disciplines of:

                                • Biological Sciences
                                • Chemical Sciences
                                • Earth and Space Sciences
                                • Physical Sciences

In Years 11 and 12, study is based on the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) subjects with Unit 1 and 2 courses offered in Year 11 and Stage 3 courses offered in Year 12 in a selection of the following courses:

  • Biological Science
  • Chemistry
  • Human Biological Science
  • Integrated Science
